2018 Lotus Flower Workshop by Nike
As part of a special event series organized by Nike in the inspiring atmosphere of the Sakıp Sabancı Museum, we brought to life a dynamic workshop design that captured the spirit of the newly launched “Zen” collection. By combining the concepts of tranquility, balance, and inner awareness—which lie at the heart of Zen philosophy—with the meditative power of paper art, we offered participants a unique lotus flower workshop.
In the workshop space overlooking the serene view of the Bosphorus, we experienced a creative process with our participants that soothed the mind and allowed for complete focus on the present moment. We meticulously shaped special textured papers in soft salmon, cream, and deep green tones that reflect the aesthetic of the Zen series. As we handcrafted lotus flowers—which, with their layered structure, symbolize rebirth and purity—we shared the techniques of the art of paper folding, which require both geometry and patience.
This creative workshop, in which participants engaged with great focus and enjoyment, both supported Nike’s vision of an innovative and balanced lifestyle and blended seamlessly with the museum’s artistic atmosphere. At the end of the event, the three-dimensional lotus flowers—which guests crafted from scratch with their own hands and could even wear as headpieces—remained in their memories as lasting symbols of this serene and creative experience.
